Description brief: The General Manager of the Shamrock Curling Club is responsible for all operations related to the Shamrock.
Shamrock operations: The Shamrock is one of the busier curling clubs in Western Canada. During the curling season (September – March), the Shamrock is home to over 20 leagues and the facility is typically open morning and night, seven days a week, with over a thousand people walking through its door during a normal week. Outside of league play, the Shamrock often runs curling events, private receptions, and operates a licensed lounge that seats over 130 patrons. During the off-season months, the Shamrock remains operative as the facility is periodically rented for non-curling activities and the building often requires maintenance management projects.
Time commitments: The General Manager of the Shamrock Curling Club is a full-time, year round position. From September to March, the General Manager position requires an extensive time commitment that will include weekdays, weeknights and weekends. Work hours for the remainder of the year, April to August, are less time intensive and flexible to help offset the demands of a very busy and active curling season.
Reporting: The General Manager reports to the Shamrock’s Board of Directors

The selected candidate will:
• Assume responsibility for the successful operations of the Shamrock, including league and event coordination, registration, scheduling, staffing, contracts, ice rentals, facility rentals, bar and inventory control, sponsorships, conditions of the facility, security of the property, life-cycle maintenance monitoring, and member communications
• Collect and receipt income from all sources, ensure payments of all bills and contracts, and manage bank deposits, year-round, while working in concert with the Shamrock’s bookkeeper and Treasurer to ensure accuracy of accounting records
• Build relationships and maintain positive rapport with club curlers, staff, event organizers, facility leasers, sponsors, service suppliers, community stakeholders, City of Edmonton partners, AGLC, neighboring clubs, and Curling Alberta
• Provide support to curling leagues and other events as needed to ensure the success of each program and booking that takes place at the Shamrock
• Keep ahead of trends in the curling business in order to identify new opportunities for positive growth and development
• Continuously evaluate programs, procedures and practices and make appropriate recommendations to the Board for any and all improvements and changes to the Shamrock

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
• Experience in sports management, facility operation, or running a related business
• University degree or college diploma in Recreation and/or Business is considered an asset
• An effective and engaging communicator
• Personable and professional in demeanor
• Highly organized and capable of multi-tasking effectively
• Self-disciplined and comfortable with a variable daily, weekly and monthly work schedule
• A natural problem-solver who is capable of identifying the required resources for finding solutions
• An effective leader and spokesperson for staff, curlers and the Shamrock in general
• Knowledgeable of the sport of curling and the business of curling
• Previous supervisory and finance experience is an asset
• Knowledgeable of general computer software and applications, such as Quickbooks, Google Drive, social media, and website content maintenance

Annual salary: Total compensation package will be commensurate with skills and experience. Approximate range will be $60,000 to $74,000 annually.
