Curling Alberta would like to announce the decision to re-open registration for the Alberta Winter Games Boys division, with the intent of filling the eight team field. When the registration deadline originally closed on November 8, only five teams had registered for the Alberta Winter Games Qualifiers. Eligible teams are encouraged to enter as soon as possible once registration reopens on Wednesday, December 6th at noon, as Curling Alberta will accept the next three teams to register with a complete roster. Registration will close once the eight team field has been filled.
This decision was made to encourage participation and development for all our teams. We see the Alberta Winter Games as a unique development opportunity for our young athletes to celebrate our sport. At the U15 level, this may be the first chance for many curlers to develop their skills through a competition of this nature.
We recognize that it is not customary for Curling Alberta to accept teams after the registration deadline, and we do not anticipate this setting a new precedent for our other competition categories.
