History of the Task Force

Curling Alberta is committed to ensuring that inclusion and access are incorporated in all programs, services and operations in accordance with existing Human Rights Legislation. A group of 8 volunteers (The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Task Force) have been meeting virtually since June 2021. Their mandate is to recommend to the Board of Curling Alberta a path forward for how Diversity, Equity and Inclusion could prosper within the future generation of curlers, volunteers and employees.

The Task Force deliberations will guide Curling Alberta by establishing and implementing a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion plan that promotes an open, welcoming and trusting environment resulting in safe sport and employment.

For a year, or more, the Task Force will explore and offer recommendations to curling rinks such as, development and execution strategies for recruitment and retention of curling participants from all communities.  Additionally, the task force will examine gaps in current participant composition and any tendencies or barriers that may be contributing factors for participation. The Task Force will aim to help the curling community enact change to reduce the barriers and provide a welcoming and safe environment.
