HEAD ICE TECHNICIAN

Head Ice Technician – Dawson Creek Curling Club (BC)

The Dawson Creek Curling Club in Dawson Creek, British Columbia is seeking a Head Ice Technician for the 2026–2027 curling season.

The Dawson Creek Curling Club is a non-profit community organization operating an eight-sheet curling facility in northern British Columbia. The club hosts multiple weekly leagues, regional bonspiels, youth programs, rentals, and community events throughout the curling season. The facility also includes a lounge, banquet space, pro shop, and food and beverage service.

Position Overview

The Head Ice Technician is responsible for the installation, preparation, and maintenance of curling ice surfaces to ensure safe, consistent, and professional playing conditions throughout the season.

The successful candidate will work closely with the General Manager, volunteers, and facility partners to maintain ice quality and support the club’s leagues, programs, and events.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and maintain curling ice, lobby and entrance for all club activities including leagues, rentals, bonspiels, and special events

Lead seasonal ice installation including surface preparation, flooding, painting, markings, and hack installation

Perform routine ice maintenance including scraping, pebbling, nipping, and flooding

Monitor facility conditions affecting ice quality and adjust preparation accordingly

Maintain curling stones including cleaning, tightening handles, and blueprinting as required

Maintain and operate ice preparation equipment including scrapers and pebbling equipment

Maintain daily ice logs and operational records

Coordinate with volunteers or assistants supporting ice preparation

Assist with seasonal shutdown including ice removal and equipment storage

Schedule

The curling season typically runs September through April.

Work hours vary depending on league schedules, ice preparation requirements, and events. Duties may require:

early mornings

evenings

weekends

extended hours during bonspiels and tournaments

Compensation

Seasonal compensation anticipated in the range of:

$30,000 – $45,000 per season

Based on an estimated seasonal workload of 900 – 1,000 hours
Equivalent to approximately $30 – $47 per hour

Final compensation will be determined based on experience, training requirements, and the final structure of the role.

Qualifications

Experience as a curling ice technician is considered an asset but is not required for the right candidate

Mechanical, facilities, refrigeration, or maintenance experience is considered valuable

Ability to work independently and manage seasonal workloads

Strong communication and organizational skills

Physical ability to perform manual work related to ice preparation

Preference may be given to candidates with recognized curling ice training, including:

Curling Canada – Assistant Ice Technician (Trained or Certified)

ADVERTISEMENT FOR AN ICE TECHNICIAN

Starting in the fall of 2026, Oliver Curling Club, located in the beautiful south Okanagan Valley, is seeking an ice technician.

Job responsibilities include ice installation mid September, care and maintenance of the playing surfaces throughout the season running from early October to mid to late March. Applicants should have curling ice making and maintenance experience. A Level 1 Curling Ice Technician Certificate would be an asset, however consideration will be given to those who have curling experience. Training will be available.

The club is a four-sheet curling facility hosting day and evening draws Monday to Friday and several bonspiels throughout the season.

This is a contract position. Remuneration will be based on experience and certificates.

Arena Attendant/Ice Technician

The Garrison Curling Club of Calgary (the “GCC” or the “Club”) is accepting applications for an Arena Attendant/Ice Technician for the upcoming season. The GCC is a busy six-sheet Curling Club located in the south west Calgary neighborhood of North Glenmore/Garrison Woods. The facility is open seven days per week with leagues running from 900a-1100p during the week and 900a-900p on weekends. In addition to the ice shed, the Club has a lounge and bar as well as a full-service kitchen during the curling season. Reporting to the Head Ice Technician, you will ensure that ice operations run efficiently and safely while maintaining a positive working relationship with members, volunteers, staff and visitors to the GCC.

Term: September 8, 2026 to March 14, 2027
Hourly rate: $18.50
Hours: Evenings and weekends; ~16 hours per week

Responsibilities:
-Assist with ice installation and in-season floods.
-Perform daily ice maintenance, including: scraping and cleaning the ice surface; mopping, pebbling and nipping the ice surface between draws or as directed; taking down scoreboard numbers between draws; cleaning carpeted surfaces and side walkways in the arena; replenishing tissue boxes in the arena; and emptying garbage cans in the arena.
-When not performing daily ice maintenance duties, assist in general building maintenance, including: shovelling snow from the front entrance and accessible ramps/parking spots; changing lights; and tidying the lobby area.
-Maintain a daily log of activities and work performed.
-Perform moderate lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing (more than 10 lbs and less than 90 lbs).

Skills, Attributes and Qualifications
-High school diploma.
-Ice Technician Level 1 and/or Arena Level 1 certification is considered an asset.
-Current CPR/Basic First Aid qualifications is considered an asset.
-One or more years’ experience working on curling ice is considered an asset.
-Ability to lift up to 40 kilos (90 lbs).
-Ability to work unsupervised.
-Valid driver’s license.

Assistant Ice Technician – Red Deer C.C.

15 & 5 Curling Ice Services is currently accepting applications for the Assistant Ice Technician position, based out of the Red Deer Curling Centre “Pidherney Centre” for the 2026-27 season.

15 & 5 Curling Ice Services provides ice maintenance services in five curling clubs across Alberta and various competitions. We strive to provide a premium product and exceptional ice quality consistently.

Reporting to the Head Ice Technician of the Red Deer Curling Centre, this is a full-time position from mid-late September to early April in which the time commitment will include weekdays, weekends, and evenings during the season. The RDCC is a 12-sheet curling club with approximately 20 draws per week and roughly 900 members. The club also hosts 10-12 regular club bonspiels throughout the season in addition to weekly rentals, schools, practice sessions, and Curling Alberta sanctioned events.

Ice Technician duties include, but are not limited to:
–Ice installation (painting, sealing, flooding; installing houses, lines, logos, and hacks)
–Prepare and maintain the ice for gameplay (scraping, mopping, pebbling, clipping)
–Assessing ice conditions
–Monitor and fix ice making equipment
–Maintaining the cleanliness of the ice area
–Performing light facility maintenance
–Physical requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds and work on ice

Must Haves

evenings, and weekends—particularly during the curling season (August to March). The position
averages approximately 40 hours per week, with flexibility to bank extra hours during the winter
season to a maximum value of 65 hours per week and use them for additional time off during the
non-curling months.
