U20 Excel Cup
Who?
Curling Alberta’s U20 Excel Cup will feature some of the best young teams in Western Canada. This event will include all teams in the U20 Excel Team Program, the top teams in the Alberta Junior Team Ranking System (AJTRS), plus one team from Saskatchewan and BC. AJTRS teams will qualify by way of the AJTRS as of October 10, 2022, understanding that points earned in U20 and up bonspiels between then and the U20 provincial qualifier deadline will still count towards Provincial qualification.
What?
The U20 Excel Cup is a special event designed to provide teams with a competitive experience unlike any other in our province. The event features a large purse and an opportunity to earn substantial AJTRS points.
Where?
Curling Alberta’s Excel Cup is always held at one of our Excel Training Centres, which have been established in three locations across the province (Okotoks, Ellerslie, and Grande Prairie). This season’s Excel Cup will be hosted at the Okotoks Curling Club.
When?
The U20 Excel Cup will be hosted October 21-23, 2022. These dates have been selected as they do not conflict with any other AJTRS events that participating teams may wish to enter. Round robin games will be played on Friday and Saturday, with the semi-finals and finals held on Sunday. The specific draw schedules for the U20 Excel Cup will be released once the fields are finalized.
Why?
Curling Alberta recognizes that it takes more than high quality training opportunities to develop the elite curlers of the future. In fact, we believe that competition is an equally important component of the developmental process, especially when it brings together some of the best young teams in Western Canada. That is the impetus behind our Excel Cups, and why we are committed to running them on an annual basis.
