Job Opportunity – Youth Program Coordinator

Position Title: Youth Program Coordinator

Organization:
Curling Alberta is the regional governing body for the sport of curling in Alberta,
supporting over 180 member clubs across the province. We provide
programming, services, and events that help grow the sport and serve local
communities. Our mission is to develop curling at all levels by fostering
inclusivity, accessibility, and excellence in the sport.

Location: Flexible. Hybrid position with a mix of virtual work, in-office presence
(Edmonton or Calgary preferred), and on-site travel to clubs as required.

Employment Type: Full-time contract until April 15, 2026.
Term: April 15, 2025 – April 15, 2026 (12 months).

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Youth Program Director, the Youth Program Coordinator will
play a key role in delivering and supporting grassroots curling programs across
Alberta. This role focuses on managing and enhancing programs such as
Ready to Rock, Rocks and Rings, Hit Draw Tap, U-15 RockFest, Triples Circuit,
and Girl’s Rock. The successful candidate will assist with program delivery,
club support, event coordination, and youth development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
 Assist curling facilities in delivering and expanding youth programs.
 Support and promote Ready to Rock, Hit Draw Tap, U-15 RockFest,
Triples Circuit, and Girl’s Rock programs.
 Organize training sessions, events, and workshops for youth curlers and
coaches.
 Develop relationships with clubs, schools, and community groups to

encourage participation.
 Provide resources and support to curling facilities to enhance youth
programming.
 Coordinate and attend events, including evenings and weekends as
needed.
 Ensure effective communication with stakeholders, including clubs,
coaches, and parents.
Qualifications & Skills
 Passion for youth sports development and grassroots programming.
 Strong organizational and project management skills.
 Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
 Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
 Experience in sports administration, coaching, or program coordination is
an asset.
 Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
 Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Compensation & Benefits
The starting minimum salary for this position is $45,000 annually but will be
negotiated depending on experience and qualifications. Curling Alberta offers
two weeks paid vacation. The incumbent will be provided with a laptop and any
other equipment required.

I am looking for a competitive U20 Women’s team looking for a player for the 2025/26 season, or players looking to form a team for next season. I am hoping to take competition seriously alongside driven and dedicated individuals. I have 12 seasons under my belt, 6 of which have been competitive (playing in events with the Alberta Junior Curling Tour). I have played mostly third and second but am open to any position. I am based in Calgary but willing to travel to nearby areas for practices and other forms of training. I am taking a light course load next year in University so I can dedicate myself to the sport. the installation, maintenance, and quality of our ice surface, ensuring a top-tier curling
experience for our members and guests.

Job Overview:
As the Head Ice Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining high-quality ice conditions,
managing ice-making equipment, and supporting the facility’s overall operations. You will play a
key role in creating a safe, enjoyable, and competitive environment for curlers of all levels. This
position requires a hands-on approach, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:
Ice Surface & Equipment Management
 Oversee ice installation, including painting, decal placement, and line installation.
 Ensure consistent and high-quality ice conditions for all curlers throughout the season.
 Conduct regular ice flooding and scraping to maintain optimal playing conditions.
 Perform rock maintenance before and during the season to ensure proper curl.
 Maintain all ice-making equipment, ensuring regular inspections and documentation of
upkeep.
 Prepare and clean the facility before draws, bonspiels, and ice rentals.
 Remove and store all ice-related equipment at the end of the season.
Facility & Safety Compliance
 Ensure adherence to all federal, provincial, and local regulatory requirements,
maintaining accurate documentation.
 Implement and oversee safety measures to provide a secure environment for members
and visitors.
Facility Rentals & Club Support
 Coordinate the opening and closing of the facility as required for rentals, leagues, and
events.

 Assist with the scheduling and coordination of ice maintenance and preparation in
collaboration with the General Manager.
 Support the promotion of curling within the community and encourage participation.
Staff & Volunteer Coordination
 Train and oversee ice staff and volunteers to ensure quality ice maintenance.
 Ensure that staff follow health and safety regulations.
 Provide payroll details for ice assistants to the General Manager.
Reporting & Communication
 Attend executive and club meetings as required.
 Provide regular reports to the executive board on ice conditions, maintenance updates,
and operational concerns.
 Maintain daily records of ice temperatures and plant readings.
 Address and resolve issues related to ice conditions and equipment.
 Perform minor building maintenance as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:
 Level 2 Ice Technician Certification or higher (lesser qualifications may be considered
for developmental opportunities).
 Proven experience in ice installation and maintenance.
 Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills.
 Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as per club programming needs.
 Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with members, stakeholders, and community
partners.
 A strong work ethic with a focus on responsibility, accountability, and reliability.
 Passion for curling; previous coaching experience or NCCP certification is considered an
asset.
