Assistant Ice Technician – Red Deer C.C.

15 & 5 Curling Ice Services is currently accepting applications for the Assistant Ice Technician position, based out of the Red Deer Curling Centre “Pidherney Centre” for the 2026-27 season.

15 & 5 Curling Ice Services provides ice maintenance services in five curling clubs across Alberta and various competitions. We strive to provide a premium product and exceptional ice quality consistently.

Reporting to the Head Ice Technician of the Red Deer Curling Centre, this is a full-time position from mid-late September to early April in which the time commitment will include weekdays, weekends, and evenings during the season. The RDCC is a 12-sheet curling club with approximately 20 draws per week and roughly 900 members. The club also hosts 10-12 regular club bonspiels throughout the season in addition to weekly rentals, schools, practice sessions, and Curling Alberta sanctioned events.

Ice Technician duties include, but are not limited to:
–Ice installation (painting, sealing, flooding; installing houses, lines, logos, and hacks)
–Prepare and maintain the ice for gameplay (scraping, mopping, pebbling, clipping)
–Assessing ice conditions
–Monitor and fix ice making equipment
–Maintaining the cleanliness of the ice area
–Performing light facility maintenance
–Physical requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds and work on ice

Skills and Attributes:
–Ice Technician experience/certification isn’t required but is an asset
–Ability to work flexible hours depending on the task at hand, including evenings and weekends
–Customer service skills and being able to listen to feedback
–Team-oriented and self-motivated
–Reliable and able to prepare the ice in a timely manner
–Verbal communication skills
–Planning and problem-solving skills

Salary: Competitive wage/salary based on education and experience

Clive Curling Rink Caretaker

Caretakers Duties
● Installing and maintaining of ice for curling season
● Overseeing the removal of ice at the end of the current season
● General running and maintenance of ice plant and other rink equipment
● Opening rink and having ice ready for regular curling events, rental events ,and Bonspiels. {
(Days and times to be determined)
● Schedule a ice rentals and overseeing renters while in building
● Cleaning of lobby, washroom, curling area, and walkways
○ Change the boot cleaner water weekly
○ Vacuuming the carpet in the lobby and curling area weekly
● Clearing ice and snow from rink entrance
● Periodical inspection of building an ice plant when not in use throughout the curling season
● Notify Board of Directors when any problems concerning the plant or equipment arise
● Willing to take Ice Makers course if needed
