Who is the Club Coach Course for?
This workshop is designed for instructors who function predominantly at the club level. After the workshop, the instructor will be competent in training curlers from youth to masters with skill levels of beginner to intermediate. There is a minimum age requirement of 16 to participate.
Do I need coaching experience to take this course?
No prior coaching experience is necessary. This course is designed to be the first formal training for curling coaches and will be accessible for all levels of knowledge. However, a general understanding of curling is required.
What content is covered during the course?
The Club Coach Course covers topics such as role of the coach, game orientation, rules & etiquette, safety, warm-ups & cool-downs, the curling delivery, introduction to strategy, sweeping, ethical coaching, running practices, skills analysis, and special interest groups.
Is there an on-ice component?
Yes, the course will include both classroom and on-ice aspects to practice skills and coaching methods. Please bring your curling equipment (or clean running shoes) and warm clothes.
Can I coach competitive teams after taking this course?
No, the Club Coach Course prepares you to coach at the club and recreational level. If you’re looking to coach competitive or high-performance teams, additional certification such as Competition Coach is required.

If I want to coach at my clubs' junior program, should I complete the Club Coach or the Club Coach Youth?
You can complete either certification to coach with your clubs' junior program. The Club Coach Youth is a 7-hour (one-day) workshop that focuses on building a coaches skills to work in a program environment with U9, U12, and U15 curlers. Whereas Club Coach is a 15-hour (two-day) workshop that focuses on training coaches to work with youth to masters curlers with beginner to intermediate skill levels. Both workshops will equip coaches with the skills to coach juniors. Which course you choose to take will largely depend on which is available at a nearby club.
