2022-’23 Vaccination Policy

September 28, 2022

The Vaccination Policy for the 2022-’23 season is now available.

At Curling Alberta, we are committed to:

  • continue to align with Alberta’s current health authority guidance
  • ensure that the competitions that serve to qualify teams on to a higher, subsequent level
of competition are advancing teams who are eligible to continue, thus maintaining the
    integrity of our events.

Consistent with these commitments, Curling Alberta has established this Vaccination Policy (the “Policy”) for the 2022-’23 season. The Policy requires that, in accordance with the terms
set forth below:

  1. There will be no vaccination requirement at Curling Alberta sanctioned competitions where the next level of competition will also not have a vaccination requirement. For clarity, at the following provincial championship categories and other events there will be no vaccination requirement: U15, U21 mixed doubles, Novice, Boston Pizza Alberta Curling Tour Championships.
  2. For Curling Alberta sanctioned competitions that lead to a higher, subsequent level of competition at which there will be a vaccination policy in place (e.g., at a sanctioned national championship or event):
    • Fours events
      – A minimum of three originally rostered players must be eligible to advance (i.e.- vaccinated according to the applicable policies).
      – If the team qualifies to proceed to the next level, they have the option of playing with three players (except in Mixed) or recruiting an additional player who is eligible (i.e.- vaccination compliant).
      – For example, this would include the following provincial championship categories and other events: U18, U20, 2023 Canada Winter Games Trials, 2023 Arctic Winter Games Trials.
      – If a team qualifies to proceed to the next level, but has an ineligible coach, the coach must be replaced with an eligible person.
    • Doubles events
      – Both players must be eligible to advance (i.e.- vaccinated according to the applicable policies).
      – If a team qualifies to proceed to the next level, but has an ineligible coach, the coach must be replaced with an eligible person.

Note, due to the potential for the COVID-19 situation to continue to evolve, Curling Alberta’s Vaccination Policy may be modified or lifted in the future. Curling Alberta may also have to
add, change, or update health and safety protocols.
