I am looking for someone to play 2nd on my Monday morning 8:45 am team at North Hill Curling Club (1201 – 2nd Street N.W. Calgary).

Job Posting: Arena Attendant/Ice Technician

Term: October 1, 2024 to March 16, 2025
Days/Hours of Work: Evenings and weekends, 8-15 hours per week. Shifts assigned 5-10 days in advance
Hourly Rate: $16-19
Reporting to: Head Ice Technician

The Garrison Curling Club of Calgary (the “GCC” or the “Club”) is accepting applications for an Arena Attendant/Ice Technician for the upcoming season. The GCC is a busy six-sheet Curling Club located in the south west Calgary neighborhood of North Glenmore/Garrison Woods. That facility is open seven days per week with leagues running from 900a-1100p. In addition to the ice shed, the Club has a lounge and bar as well as a full-service kitchen during the curling season.

Reporting to the Head Ice Technician, you will ensure that ice operations run efficiently and safely while maintaining a positive working relationship with members, volunteers, staff and visitors to the GCC.

Responsibilities
– Assist with ice installation and removal.
– Perform daily ice maintenance, including: scraping and cleaning the ice surface; mopping, pebbling and nipping the ice surface between draws or as directed; taking down scoreboard numbers between draws; cleaning carpeted surfaces and side walkways in the arena; replenishing tissue boxes in the arena; and emptying garbage cans in the arena.
– When not performing daily ice maintenance duties, assist in general building maintenance, including: shovelling snow from the front entrance and accessible ramps/parking spots; changing lights; and tidying the lobby area.
– Maintain a daily log of activities and work performed.
– Perform moderate lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing (more than 10 lbs and less than 90 lbs).

Skills, Attributes and Qualifications
– High school diploma
– Ice Technician Level 1 and/or Arena Level 1 certification is considered an asset
– Current CPR/Basic First Aid qualifications is considered an asset
– One or more years’ experience working on curling ice is considered an asset
– Ability to lift up to 40 kilos (90 lbs)
– Ability to work unsupervised
– Valid driver’s license

We have a competitive coach, play on Monday nights at the North Hill Curling Club, and have a full roster of events. Practices are regular (Saturdays & Sundays on weekends off of events). We are a ladies team looking for 1 player to play front end. We are playing Wednesday nights in Beaumont. We have 1 junior on our team and are looking for another adult as we are hoping to go after Club’s this year and possibly play at a higher level next season. Our team has a trained competitive coach to help us with our goals.
