This week’s update highlights several important operational items for clubs, including updated registration waivers, utility cost-saving resources, upcoming education opportunities, and the launch of Curling Alberta’s new Ice Tech Team pilot.

???? Registration & Membership Reminders

As clubs prepare for the 2026–27 season, please ensure your registration process includes the following:

✅ Updated Safe Sport Waivers Required

As previously communicated, effective May 25, Curling Alberta became part of the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM).

To support compliance with the Government of AB Safe Sport requirements, all clubs are asked to use the updated Adult and Youth Waivers (attached) for the 2026–27 season and replace any previous versions currently in use.

Curling IO Users: Select the latest Required Curling AB Adult & Youth Waiver templates within Curling IO.
Non-Curling IO Users: Use the attached waivers and add your club name where indicated.
Ensure all participants complete the waiver during registration.
Complete the annual Affiliated Member Acknowledgement Form: Affiliated Member Acknowledgement Form

✅ Curling Development Fee (CDF)

The Curling Development Fee (CDF) remains $22 per curler and applies to all participants who curl four or more times per season. We appreciate your support in ensuring the fee is included as part of your club’s registration process.

✅ Membership Reporting & Invoicing Process

Fall 2026: Clubs will receive an invoice for 75% of the previous season’s membership fees.
By February 2027: Submit your completed membership spreadsheet.
Spring 2027: Final membership fee reconciliation invoice will be issued.

???? Accurate membership reporting remains essential for advocacy, funding opportunities, and helping Curling Alberta demonstrate the impact of curling across the province.

Earlier this spring, Curling Alberta partnered with the Utilities Consumer Advocate (UCA) to deliver a four-part webinar series focused on utility cost management for curling clubs.

❄️ Introducing Curling Alberta’s Ice Tech Team

We are pleased to launch a pilot Ice Tech Team for the 2026-27 season:

Mike Libbus – Head Ice Tech
Cody Hall – Assistant Ice Tech
Roger Miskolczi – Assistant Ice Tech

- This pilot initiative will provide consultation, support, and educational opportunities for clubs while helping Curling Alberta better understand provincial ice-making needs.
- The team will attend Curling Canada’s Ice Tech Professional Development program this August to align with current best practices and build greater ice-making capacity throughout Alberta.

This initiative is intended to complement—not replace—existing opportunities for ice technicians across the province. More details to follow.
