With Curling Alberta’s commitment to the youth in our community and love for the sport of curling, we are interested in supporting junior curling in Alberta, while simultaneously encouraging leadership and excellence through education. With this in mind, we have listed a number of scholarships available within Canada to support youth curlers.
Since 1999, the Hec Gervais Academic & Curling Scholarship Foundation has been helping young athletes pursue post-secondary education while pursuing their curling dreams. The fund was established both to honor “The Friendly Giant’s” many accomplishments and contributions to the curling community, as well as reflect his strong belief in education, competitiveness, and leadership.
To date, over $150,000 in scholarship funds have been paid out to deserving recipients thanks to our partnership with Curling Alberta, as well as the generous support of the curling community. It is a legacy that Hec Gervais would certainly be proud of. For more information and how to apply, click here.

The Sandra Schmirler Foundation encourages the athletic and academic careers of promising Canadian curlers by offering annual scholarships. Beginning in 2013, the Sandra Schmirler Foundation has awarded $5,000 scholarships to six junior curlers annually. The scholarship funds education and curling expenses equally.
Each Spirit of Sandra Scholar organizes a fundraising event to ensure that Sandra’s Legacy Lives On. Every year, the scholars are provided with the opportunity to select one hospital foundation to receive a grant to purchase life-saving equipment for their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). More information here.
Applications must be received by Friday, May 23, 2025 at noon ET. Successful applicants will be notified no later than June 30, 2025.
