IMPORTANT NOTICE – APPLICATION OF COACH INTERACTION RULE (Men’s and Women’s)

IMPORTANT NOTICE – APPLICATION OF COACH INTERACTION RULE

This is an important clarification about coach interaction during play at Curling Alberta’s men’s and women’s events this season.
Curling Canada has recently adopted the following WFC rule:
“While a game is in progress, the coach, the alternate player, and all other team officials may, if the venue layout allows, communicate with their team from their position in the team official field of play. This only applies when a team is the non-delivering team. Yelling is not allowed, and the team must not distract the delivering team and must be aware of the player position as the non-delivering team.”
Curling Canada will be implementing on-ice coach seating at opposite ends for the Brier and Scotties to allow coaches to interact with their teams during play. However, because this practice has not been used in men’s or women’s competition in Alberta and because Curling Alberta has not provided advance notice that this would be introduced at provincial qualifiers, we believe that implementing it immediately would not give teams competing at provincial qualifiers sufficient time to prepare.
Therefore, Curling Alberta has decided the following:
  • This rule will NOT be used at its Men’s and Women’s Provincial Qualifiers this season.
  • This rule WILL be in effect at the Combined Men’s & Women’s Provincial Championships in Okotoks this season, where all teams will have had appropriate notice and preparation time.
