As registration begins and clubs prepare to welcome curlers back to the ice, this week’s update highlights several important items, including the upcoming Curling Alberta Annual General Meeting (AGM), the new Supplemental Sport Accident Insurance Policy and Claim Process, updated participant waivers, and upcoming opportunities and events.

📋 Curling Alberta Annual General Meeting
Curling Alberta has issued the official 60-Day Notice for the 2026 Annual General Meeting.

Member clubs are encouraged to review the AGM materials and submit their RSVP, whether a representative will be attending or not. Clubs unable to attend are encouraged to submit a proxy form.

🛡️ Updated Sport Accident Insurance Coverage & Claim Process
Effective August 10, 2026
Curling Alberta’s new Supplemental Sport Accident Insurance Policy came into effect on August 10, 2026, replacing the previous policy. The policy is in effect until August 10, 2027.
Who Is Covered?
Coverage applies to Curling Alberta members who:

Have paid all required dues and fees, including the $22 Curling Development Fee (CDF).
- Are in good standing with Curling Alberta.

Are participating in a sanctioned activity, including games, practices, clinics, training sessions, leagues, bonspiels, meetings, and related travel.
Key Information
-
The policy provides supplemental (excess) coverage, meaning it is secondary to government and private health insurance plans.
- Coverage may assist with eligible out-of-pocket medical, dental, and injury-related expenses resulting from an accident during a sanctioned curling activity.
- Benefits are subject to policy terms, conditions, exclusions, and coverage limits.
If a Claim Is Needed:
In the event of an injury during a sanctioned curling activity:
- Gallagher must be notified within 30 days of the accident.
- Claim documentation must be submitted within 90 days of the accident.
- A completed Sport Accident Claim Form is required.
- Most medical claims require a Physician’s Statement.
- The affiliated club will be asked to verify membership information, including confirmation that the participant’s CDF had been paid prior to the accident.

Clubs may wish to share these resources with individuals responsible for registrations, incidents, or insurance-related inquiries.
Important: Accident notifications must be submitted within 30 days, and claim documentation must be received within 90 days of the accident date.

📝 Updated Participant Waivers for the 2026-27 Season
Curling Alberta has updated its participant waivers to include information about the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM). They are attached to this email.
These updates help ensure participants are aware of available safe sport reporting pathways and support our collective commitment to creating safe, respectful, and accountable curling environments.
For Clubs Using Curling I/O
✅ Updated waivers have already been added to Curling I/O.
To activate them:
- Click the New Waiver button.
- Select the 2026-27 Adult Waiver and 2026-27 Youth Waiver.
- Deactivate any previous waiver versions currently in use.
For Clubs Not Using Curling I/O
✅ Updated waiver forms are attached for inclusion in your registration process.
